A Portrait of Petals
Today I want to share some release fabrics from QT Fabrics. The collection is called A Portrait of Petals. I was drawn to this collection because of the floral panel. It reminded me of all the floral arrangements in some of the châteaux here, particularly Villandry and Chenonceau. It was amazing to me that these fresh arrangements were made every day. Each on was extensive for a floral arrangement and there was one in every room. Every room. It was such a joy to walk into each room and see how different they all were; majestic, elegant, vibrant. So this panel really spoke to me and invited me to play.
I received the fabrics here in France a few weeks ago – link to you-tube channel video - The panel was every bit as vivid and wonderful as I hoped it would be. I love dots so I had picked to complimentary prints in the collection to use that are both dots. The surprise that I love when the fabrics arrived is that the dot fabric is not flat. In other words, it has a little mottling, texture that really adds to the print. They were also more vibrant than I imagined they would be which I love! The fabrics had a great feel to them and were easy to work with, lending itself to a great deal of pleasure working with them to put it all together.
The design features one main block with slight variations in color use of the two dot prints. Coming together it creates a trellis that highlights the floral panels. Half the blocks are the panels pieces and a plain square and the other half are the pieced blocks, leading to a pretty quick come together. I felt this really deserved a border that complimented the panels and add to the daintiness of the florals. The scalloped border accomplished that for me. There’s always this small – ugh, now I have to make a pieced border – that comes over me. It happens every time. Every time. I always want to be done and get started on a new project.
This pieced border went together quickly though mainly because the pieces were fairly long meaning it didn’t require hundreds of pieced border blocks. I think I might have spent an hour making the border strips which was well worth it in the end and I’m glad I powered through it and made it happen. Let me know what you think. The quilt measures in at 75” x 75”. These fabrics will be released from QT around May/June of 2027 so be on the lookout for them. A Portrait of Petals from QT Fabrics. I’ll have the pattern available shortly.
I have a video from you-tube that I’ll link here later today showing me putting it together. Next is to get it long-armed. I have finally found someone a few hours away from me here who does long-arming here in France. The control side of me comes out having to hand over my pieced top to someone else to long-arm since I've been doing it myself now for so long. All the errors - and there was always an error in my long-arming, Always, were my errors. While I never took pleasure in the longarm process - Never - there's so much control I had over the process if I didn't like how it was going along the way, keeping my edges how I like them, etc. So this will be a challenge for me to let go. I'll share photos when the quilt is complete with quilting & binding.
I have another project for QT Fabrics - another French inspired design. I'll open those up in a few days and let you have a peak...
Until then ~ À Bientôt,
Cherie
