I've been having fun lately creating versatile designs that can use 2 1/2" strips OR 10" squares. This month I put together Butterfly Garden featuring Crystal Manning's Garden Society prints. The pattern will give you directions & cutting for using either 2 1/2" strips or 10" squares. It also allows for some strip quilting if you are using the 2 1/2" strips. Here's a picture of my finished 9 square version since I had limited fabrics.

I love the rich colors of Crystal Manning's prints. So vibrant! I thought I had packed some border fabric with me but apparently not. So for now this will do. You can see the butterfly wings but also I love how a diamond with a button dot in the center emerges between the butterflies. This is sooooo simple that I would easily recommend this to a confident beginner or a beginner's 2nd quilt top. It's just made with one block that is rotated to create the butterflies. The only trick is making sure you are keeping the square aligned in the correct direction when sewing on the white corners.
After making all my squares, which goes together quickly by chain piecing, I arranged them to what looked best to my eye - 4 for each butterfly. With some simple sashing the butterfly emerged. I must admit that while I don't think I'm a control freak, I struggle to simple grab & go for a haphazard scrappy look. I ALWAYS take time rearranging till I feel I have the best arrangement of color. I like to have a balance so that there's a good mix of light & dark within the blocks & then within the quilt itself. I will admit to spending way too much time with arranging my blocks even going so far as to unstitch & rearrange pieces. But moving on...

Mia has agreed that this is the best arrangement & when I get that set, it's simple sashing to get all the blocks together. All in all it went together so fast. I probably spent just as much time looking for a good border fabric to go with this than I did making the quilt top itself. BUT lucky for you, Laurie has yards & yards of the beautiful blue butterfly print shown in these blocks for you to make your own Butterfly Garden quilt top with Garden Society.
I think the blue border really sets the entire quilt off. Wish I had some. Don't tell Laurie but on my next trip to the states I think I need to find a way to snag 1/2 yard. The quilt kit features 19 different Garden Society Moda prints for your butterfly blocks & this gorgeous blue butterfly border & green binding from Garden Society. She also has some yardage set aside of the mint/aqua butterfly print for some backing kits. The quilt kit measures 64" x 64" & is using the 10" square method. The pattern will have both methods for you so if you want to use the pattern for a future quilt with a Jelly Roll you can.
Here's a link to the kit.
I hope you have fun making your own Butterfly Garden.
À Bientôt,
Cherie
